Welcome to ISSA
A Co‑educational Day and Boarding School
The International School of South Africa is a co-educational day and boarding school in Mahikeng, North West Province. Our community brings together families from South Africa, from across the African continent and from further afield.
Students progress from early learning through Junior Primary, Primary and Secondary School, including Sixth Form, within one connected school and one shared set of values.
Our Story
Founded in 1989 on a Vision of Bringing Children Together
ISSA was founded in 1989 by His Excellency Mr Lucas Mangope. His vision was a school in which children of different nationalities and communities would learn side by side.
That founding purpose remains recognisable in the school today — in our classrooms, our boarding houses, our sports fields and the friendships formed across cultures.

A Diverse Community
Learners at ISSA study alongside classmates from a range of cultures, nationalities and backgrounds. That daily contact builds understanding, confidence and perspective — and prepares students for study and work in an international environment.
Parents and guardians are partners in this community, and we encourage involvement in school events, consultations and the wider life of the school.

Houses give students a smaller community within the school, and a framework for inter-house sport, culture and service.

Pastoral Care
Care, Belonging and Personal Growth
Alongside academic progress, ISSA supports students’ wellbeing, belonging and personal growth. Teachers, tutors, phase leaders and boarding staff work together so that students are known and supported as individuals.
Support extends from classroom encouragement to guidance on friendships, organisation, responsibility and the transition between school phases.
